Kate The Chemist at CuriOdyssey’s First Friday Family Night

We are delighted to present Kate the Chemist, Dr. Kate Biberdorf, as the featured science education performer at CuriOdyssey’s July 2020 First Friday Family Night! Kate the Chemist is an acclaimed science entertainer and author of the best-selling book, “The Big Book of Experiments.” She will show how exciting science can be as she performs her experiments for kids at this family-friendly, live broadcast on July 3rd, 2020 at 6pm Pacific on CuriOdyssey’s Facebook.

Kate the Chemist, of the University of Texas, is famous for breaking stereotypes and blowing stuff up—all in a good pair of heels. Through her theatrical and hands-on approach to teaching, she breaks down the image of the stereotypical scientist, while reaching students that might otherwise be intimidated by science. Students’ emotional responses, rather than rote memorization of facts, is key to Biberdorf ’s dynamic approach to her program, as well as science in general. Her exciting and engaging program leaves audiences with a positive, memorable impression of science – all while diminishing the stigma around women in science.

Dr. Biberdorf’s best-selling book,  Kate the Chemist: The Big Book of Experimentsis a collection of 25 kid-friendly science experiments that come prepared with a messiness factor rating and a note from Kate about how each experiment works. This book and her new children’s novel, Dragons vs. Unicorns, are available at The Reading Bug, a San Carlos family bookstore.

You can learn more about Kate the Chemist on Great Big Story and watch her do her other experiments (many of which are not designed for kids to do at home) on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Wendy Williams Show
