CuriOdyssey's Amazing Bots & Bugs Event
Interact with innovative robots and incredible insects
SAN MATEO, CA – February 14, 2018 – See how nature influences science at CuriOdyssey’s Bots & Bugs event on April 7 and April 8, 2018, with an opening night event on April 6. This robotics and entomology event inspires and engages kids and their families with up-close encounters with astonishing insects and inventions from Bay Area technology organizations. Interact with robotic creations built by kids and professionals, make and wear technology-inspired art, meet living insects and learn how bug biology influences imagination and innovation.
Be captivated by entomologist, educator and Beetlelady, Dr. Stephanie Dole, as she shares her collection of wriggling insects and the story of how their anatomy influences robotic design. Meet the talented young students with FIRST who build robots, learn about their fun journey in FIRST, and take their robots for a drive! Watch these amazing teams and their robots in action. Learn about iD Tech’s tech camps for kids and teens. Create a fusion TechInsect with The Museum of Craft and Design from upcycled computer junk and other found objects, and wear it around as a pin. Try on Giant Cardboard Robot Arms that make you look like a robot.
Meet the Customer X robot, Pepper, who scans your bug drawing, identifies the bug and shares her knowledge about it. See Starship’s delivery robot rove around the zoo, pose with it for photos to share with #StarshipRobots on social media, and ask its Robot Ambassador questions. Be enchanted by Paul-Lous Ageneau’s delightful, dancing teapot as it frolics and sways.
CuriOdyssey’s combination of science exhibits and zoo is unique in the Bay Area. CuriOdyssey’s Bots & Bugs event will spark your curiosity about the influence of biology on design. This event has been generously funded by Sharon and Joel Friedman. For information on Bots & Bugs, see https://curiodyssey.org/activities/family-events/bots-and-bugs/.
