Animal Care
CuriOdyssey is dedicated to providing excellent care for our animals. Our animals receive the highest care, demonstrated by the record-setting life spans of some of our animals and our accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Fewer than 10% of zoos and aquariums nationally receive accreditation by AZA.

DEDICATED TO OUR ANIMALS
Each animal in our care has an individualized diet plan that is monitored by our professional animal keepers. The dietary needs of our animals cover a wide range. Some animals eat meats such as mice, rats, chicken, quail, and rabbit while others live on trout, smelt, salmon, squid, or insects. The omnivores and vegetarians eat fresh fruits and vegetables. The animals’ diets are closely monitored to determine which foods each animal responds to, how much they eat, and when they eat so that their diet plans can be adjusted accordingly.
Our wildlife keepers work hard to replicate some of the conditions our animals would experience if out in the wild. One way we do this is to provide “enrichment” to both our on-exhibit animals and Animal Ambassadors. Enrichment includes interaction with animal keepers and with objects that require the animals to behave as they would in the wild – running, playing, and searching for food.
Enrichment can also take the form of simply taking our Animal Ambassadors out of their living quarters for a walk around CuriOdyssey or, in the case of our raptors, out into our weathering yard (a fenced-in, mesh-covered, 300-square-foot outdoor enclosure).
In addition, CuriOdyssey is engaged in a variety of conservation activities. Click here to learn more about our conservation programs.
CuriOdyssey is a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK). This organization is committed to professional development and providing animal keepers with opportunities to raise money for animal conservation. Fundraisers held at AAZK chapters across the country have raised both funds and awareness for conservation programs around the world.
