Weekend Workshops

Does your child enjoy exploring, creating and discovering? CuriOdyssey’s Weekend Workshops are the perfect place to take a deeper look at some of the phenomena around us every day. Adaptations, forces, and engineering are just a few of the areas explored during these two-hour science programs. CuriOdyssey educators support curiosity by helping children discover the answers to their own questions. Register now for this up-close and personal science experience designed to provide kids with the tools to deeply understand the changing world.

Parents: All workshops take place at CuriOdyssey.  Parents are welcome to support their children as a partner in workshops or can drop them off and pick-up at the end of the workshop. Workshop content is designed for the recommended ages.  A parent/guardian may be required to be with participants younger than the recommended age.  All workshops require pre-registration.

The Great Egg Drop: March 11, 2017
Recommended for children ages 7-11 years old.
Workshop Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

In this workshop, your mission is to design and build a protective device for an egg that will “fall” off the roof of CuriOdyssey!  Try different strategies to protect the egg and slow its decent such as building a parachute, springy landing pads, or suspension struts.  Put on your thinking caps and take on this experiment to defy gravity and protect your egg.  This workshop is great for kids that have a knack for engineering, like to build, and get excited by a good challenge.  If your child has done this before, even better- CuriOdyssey educators will work help participants learn from experience and provide different materials to keep the project exciting.

Solar Science: April 8, 2017
Recommended for children ages 6-10 years old.
Workshop Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

The sun is the source of life on earth.  It provides light for plants to grow, energy for electricity, and heat to keep our planet warm.  In this workshop students are going to explore the path the sun travels in the sky, how rainbows are formed, and how to focus sunlight when we trace shadows, diffract light, and etch wood.  You won’t want to miss a moment of this stellar workshop as we illuminate our observations of the sun.

3,2,1…Lift Off!: May 13, 2017
Recommended for children ages 7-11 years old.
Workshop Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

People use the phrase “it’s not rocket science” because they view rocket science as difficult; however, this workshop will prove them wrong.  Constructing a strong fuselage, designing an aerodynamic nose cone, and deciding where to place fins are all variables that kids will consider when trying create a rocket that will fly the farthest or on target.  Students will engineer rockets that will be powered by their breath, compressed air, and water pressure.  This workshop is sure to launch any child’s interest in rocket science.
