10 Best Online Zoo & Aquarium Experiences

We know that you are missing your favorite CuriOdyssey zoo animals.  We hope you’ll view CuriOdyssey’s animals online often.  If you want to see what other animals you can find in the virtual world, these 10 zoos and aquariums are providing live animal content to educate and entertain you.  You may see some of these organizations with #iamthezootoday on Facebook or Instragram. 

1. Alaska Zoo Shows Arctic Animals!

The Alaska Zoo Distance Learning is hosting live animal talkon Zoom each weekday at 11:00am AK time (12:00pm PDT).   zookeeper will show their animals live while they are receiving food or enrichment (I watched a talk about wolves and it was so cool!).  You may ask the zookeeper questions via chat and the zookeeper will answer your questions right then during the presentation.  If you missed any of the talks, find the videos on the Alaska Zoo Facebook page Arctic animals have very think skin and fur to keep warm.  What do you do to keep warm on a cold day?   

2. The Brookfield Zoo Brings the Zoo to You!

Brookfield Zoo is hosting Bring The Zoo To You live chats on their Facebook page, Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. Central (9:00 PDT).  Enjoy a live chat with the animal care staff and some of the zoo animals.  You are also encouraged to paint, draw, or color a picture of the animal and then share it with the zoo on their Facebook page!  A little science and a little art make for a whole lot of fun!

3. The Oakland Zoo comes home to you!

Oakland Zoo, Zoo@Home has several options for you to learn including Zoo HomeSchool, Walking with a Naturalist, “Ask a Zookeeper” via chat, and a Junior Zookeeper program.  You can learn all about the zoo animals and ask any questions – a real zookeeper will answer!  The Oakland Zoo is also posting animal videos regularly on Facebook and Instagram.  Get wild with the Oakland Zoo!

4. Put on your safari hat and stay in for a Home Safari with the Cincinnati Zoo!

The Cincinnati Zoo is offering the Home Safari Program on Facebook Live every weekday at 3:00pm EDT (12:00pm PDT).  Each of the Home Safari Resources will highlight one of the zoo’s animals and provide an activity that you can do at home.  If you miss the day’s program, it will be posted to the zoo’s website and to their YouTube channel.  Don’t forget to put on your hat before you join the adventure!

5. Facebook Live with the Assiniboine Park Zoo!

The Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is bringing the zoo to you every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1:00pm CST (11:00am PDT).  If you miss the Facebook Live event, you can see it on the zoo’s Facebook page or their YouTube channel.  Do you have a pool?  If so, on a warm day, try swimming like a seal!

6. Phoenix Zoo Ed-Zoo-Cation!

At the Phoenix Zoo you will be able to see and participate in behind-the-scenes keeper talks, live educational programming, and ed-zoo-cational activities. The Phoenix Zoo has updated their blog with exclusive articles and content from their experts.  Check out their Facebook and Instagram for a lot more fun!

7. ZOOlympics at the Memphis Zoo!

Are you missing sports right now?  Well, the Memphis Zoo has come up with a fun alternative – ZOOlympics!  You will not want to miss any of these competitions!!  Check out their Facebook page to find the ZOOlympic events and then watch to your heart’s content.  They have competitors from many different countries!  After the ZOOlympics, explore some more of the animals with Zoo Dude and Virtual Wild Adventures.  It’s going to be a wild time at the Memphis Zoo!

8. Virginia Living Museum – From Morning to Night

You might want to spend one entire day with the Virginia Living Museum!  They have a whole host of daily online activities for the whole family to enjoy.  Their activities begin at 8:00am EDT (5:00am PDT) with Diet of the Day and finish at 8:00 pm EDT (5:00pm PDT) with Night Night Nature – a bedtime story for children ages 5 and under.  Check out the Virginia Living Museum Daily Schedule of Online Education and then head over to the corresponding social media page to participate.  Yep, you can spend the whole day here!

9. Smithsonian’s National Zoo Animal Cams!!

Whether you want to cuddle up to a panda or imagine holding a naked mole-rate in your hands, The National Zoo has several animal cams that will keep you entertained (Naked Mole-Rat Cam; Lion Cam; Giant Panda Cam; and Elephant Cam).  They also have online videos to watch and booklets to download for fun and education.  Check out all their different online options, National Zoo Educational Activities You Can Do Home.  Do you have a pet at home?  What would viewers see if you have a camera posted viewing your pet?

10. California Academy of Sciences – webcams and live streaming!

Cal Academy in San Francisco has a host of animal webcams!  Here you’ll be able to check out their penguins, string rays, and other marine life.  With the Farallon Islands live webcam, you can request to be the one in control of the various cameras.  Favorite views include the north landing and marine mammal steps because you can see a lot of wild sea lions!  On clear days, and depending upon the time of year, you may be able to see whales!  At Cal Academy, you can also check out special live events.  You’ll enjoy exploring with Cal Academy!!
