Campus Repairs Continue While Power Remains Out

All of us at CuriOdyssey are touched by the outpouring of support during our storm-related closure and repairs. We wanted you to be among the first to know about our progress and our plans for reopening.
We have extended our temporary closure through Friday, April 14 due to the continued power outage at Coyote Point Recreation Area and under guidance from San Mateo County Parks. However, our staff have been hard at work to care for our animals and our campus as we prepare for reopening:
- Since mid-March, approximately 40 trees have been cleared from pathways in our garden, zoo, and parking lot
- Gunner’s habitat will receive a temporary fix early next week, and replacement glass is already in production
- Structural repairs for our Animal Ambassador and animal care areas and bird mews are nearly complete
- An upgraded generator has been installed to provide temporary power to our zoo
- We will start moving previous exhibits back into the concourse, and new exhibits will be installed in their inaugural home, the Bay Gallery
These first steps toward reopening would not be possible without our facilities and wildlife teams, who have been onsite daily (even during the most severe storms) to tend to our animals and manage clean up and repair efforts. We thank these staff for their dedication, resilience, and incredible progress under the toughest of circumstances.
We also continue to partner closely with San Mateo County, which operates Coyote Point Recreation Area. They are leading the transformer repair project that will restore power to several facilities within Coyote Point, not just to CuriOdyssey. It is possible that Coyote Point Recreation Area may reopen in phases based on various other factors, and we will be coordinating with the County in order to determine a safe reopening date for CuriOdyssey.
As you may have heard from our KTVU coverage, our closure has meant the cancellation of spring camps, field trips, and private rental events in addition to the revenue loss from ticket sales. We are grateful for the donors, members, volunteers, and community supporters who have stepped up to contribute to our recovery during this unavoidable closure.
