Proud to be a Place for All

At CuriOdyssey, we hope that everyone will be inspired to become curious about science, just as we believe that all scientific fields should welcome every aspiring scientist and learner to have a seat at the table. An inclusive and diverse community of citizen scientists is critical to the brighter future that anchors our mission.

It is in this spirit that we celebrate Pride every June to encourage curiosity, kindness, and equality for all. Throughout the month of June, guests can contribute to our community art project that invites everyone to share their own rainbow. This popular activity has offered CuriOdyssey community members of all ages a way to show how they support their friends and family through drawings and affirmations of kindness and acceptance.

This year, we also invited drag queen Miss Rahni for a special all-ages story time in our outdoor classroom, where she read three stories that showcased friendship, acceptance, and representation in science. Drag queen story hours originated in San Francisco with the desire to promote both literacy and diversity among children, and are similar to watching an actor on a stage play a larger-than-life character as they tell a story. As an art form and a celebration of self-expression, drag is often seen at family Pride events throughout the Bay Area and beyond. At CuriOdyssey, Miss Rahni was welcomed with warm smiles and thanked with cheers from the crowd after her readings ended!

We continue to imagine new ways to invite and celebrate the many communities that we serve in the Bay Area as part of CuriOdyssey’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
