This workshop introduces students to egg-laying animals like insects, amphibians, birds, and reptiles. Students will observe, compare, and interact with live animals that lay eggs, investigate differences between different birds’ eggs, and take a closer look at the form and function of the insides of a chicken egg.

What do animals need to survive in the wild? Students will learn about an animal’s niche in nature and discover how individual organisms are connected to one another. Outdoor exploration is a large part of this workshop as we search for tracks, scat, and other signs that animals inhabit the park and find what they need for survival: food, water, and space.

This workshop invites students to explore how animals experience the world using their senses—and how we can use our own senses to observe and learn about them. This activity is propelled by a fan or the students themselves! Students learn about engineering, gasses, friction, sails, forces, motion, and energy. By creating a vehicle which can be powered by wind, students gain understanding of design, why we use wheels, why we might not, and attempt to build a vehicle which goes straight, far, and/or fast with limited materials.
