SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA – January 16th, 2020 – CuriOdyssey, San Mateo’s science playground and zoo, in partnership with Alaska Airlines, is pleased to announce the launch of its Museums for All (MFA) program beginning February 7. With the generous donation from Founding Sponsor Alaska Airlines, CuriOdyssey’s MFA will provide underserved communities in the Bay Area access to museums, science centers and other cultural institutions.

Museums for All is a nationwide, cooperative initiative between the Association of Children's Museums (ACM) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This signature access-for-all program is designed to encourage underserved families of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum habits.

Research shows that museums help foster learning for young children, in particular because they can access disciplinary-specific information, such as history or biology, before they encounter those disciplines in formal school settings. Additionally, research conducted by the University of Pennsylvania has shown that underserved individuals experience better education, security and health outcomes when they have greater access to cultural resources.

“Alaska Airlines is committed to enriching our Bay Area community and we are thrilled to be the founding sponsor of CuriOdyssey’s Museums for All program,” said Annabel Chang, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of Bay Area. “By helping to provide access to museums and other cultural institutions, it is our hope that our local youth will be better positioned in their lifelong education and career pathways.”

The program makes it affordable for families to discover CuriOdyssey’s educational exhibits, programs, and events, along with discounted access to museums and zoos nationwide through CuriOdyssey’s reciprocity programs. Through MFA, families have access to discounted memberships – an annual family membership CuriOdyssey is discounted from $145 to $35 and daily admission is reduced from $15.95 for adults and $12.95 for children to $1.00 for both.

Beginning in 2020, families will have access to CuriOdyssey’s new pop-up exhibit, Click, Clank, Clunk. By interacting with this exhibit, children will discover the extraordinary science in everyday objects.

The program will be celebrated by the museum and members of the community at an event on February 7th, 2020 at 6:30 pm at CuriOdyssey.
