CuriOdyssey Explorer Day: A Girl Scout Badge Adventure, in partnership with Girl Scouts of Northern California

CuriOdyssey and Girl Scouts of Northern California are teaming up on September 5 for a day designed just for troops, where badge requirements come to life through real animal encounters, field exploration, and guided investigation with our education team. Every girl earns her badge and a CuriOdyssey fun patch, plus a day to explore the science center, zoo, and playground.

Each workshop is tailored to a specific Girl Scout level, so girls are learning and exploring alongside peers working toward the same badge. Daisies will practice careful animal observation, Brownies will get an up-close look at the insect world, and Juniors will investigate what animals need to survive and thrive in their habitats. Every session blends structured badge work with the kind of hands-on curiosity CuriOdyssey is built for.

Pre-registration is required for all Girl Scouts and their chaperones. Please see the instructions below for how to register for this event. Space is limited so save your spot today!

A couple things to know before you register

Registration includes full-day admission, so troops are welcome to spend the rest of the day exploring the zoo, science center, and playground.
Chaperones are required to accompany their troop, and additional siblings or family members are welcome to join at a discount.

Girl Scout Programs

GIRL SCOUT WORKSHOP

A two-part combo: CuriOdyssey educators will guide Scouts in a 60-minute workshop featuring special activities related to each badge. Explore CuriOdyssey’s science exhibits and wildlife habitats on your own.

Available at CuriOdyssey on weekdays 10:00 AM–2:30 PM.

SELF-GUIDED VISIT

Explore CuriOdyssey’s science exhibits and wildlife habitats on your own. Groups of 10 or more may be eligible for a group discount.

Girl Scout Workshops

Daisy-Animal Observer

Close observation is at the heart of what keeps zoo animals healthy and happy, and scouts will practice this skill like a real zookeeper would. Girls will sketch animal prints, test their instincts with a game of animal camouflage, and get an up-close encounter with one of our zoo residents. Along the way, scouts will record field notes like a scientist, learning what careful observation can tell us about an animal's well-being.

Brownie- Bugs

Get an up-close look at the tiny creatures that do so much for our world. Scouts will consult with a bug specialist to create a bug poster by sketching their subject and digging into where it lives, what it eats, and how it fits into its ecosystem. Girls will search the park to spot bugs in the wild, then wrap up with a hands-on bug field trip, meeting our resident cockroaches and millipedes and getting a look at our pinned insect collection. By the end of the program, your troop will be expert entomologists!

Junior- Animal Habitats

What does it take for an animal to survive in the wild? Scouts will explore an animal's niche in nature by observing wildlife and taking notes on what they see before diving deeper into a few local animals, learning why they live where they do, what they eat, and how they interact with the world around them. Scouts will also explore a zoo habitat up close, researching how different animals are adapted to their environment, and get hands-on by building their own animal shelter. The day wraps up with a chance to give back, helping clean up habitat space on a hike or at the beach.

These workshops are intended to help meet some of the requirements for certain badges. However, they are not designed to cover all the badge requirements within the 60-minute workshop. CuriOdyssey does not issue Scout Badges. For information on how to purchase them, please reach out to your local Scout branch.
