Leadership Development Program

CuriOdyssey’s Leadership Development Program is designed for high school youth in the San Francisco Bay Area to take charge of their STEM education and career exploration. This youth program will help participants develop leadership and critical thinking skills while providing them with opportunities to meet STEM professionals and college students pursuing STEM careers. They will learn the skills necessary to be stronger leaders in their community through activities, portfolio building, and gain experience working in an educational museum and zoo setting.

Time Commitment

We will host bi-monthly meetings on Saturdays throughout the school year. Sessions will generally occur in person at CuriOdyssey from 10am to 2:30pm. LDP participants will also be required to volunteer for 6 hours of Education Programs throughout the school year. In order to properly ensure you are set up for success consistent attendance is required. Some sessions will be in person at CuriOdyssey, and others will be virtual on Zoom.

Totaling 40 hours service hours during the academic year, with additional support during the summer camp season.

Vaccination Requirement

Our programs will be conducted indoors and outdoors at CuriOdyssey adhering to current health and safety guidelines. This includes but is not limited to wearing appropriate face covering, physical distancing and handwashing.

Vaccination is a vital tool to reduce the presence and severity of COVID-19 cases in the workplace, in communities, and in the nation as a whole. CuriOdyssey has adopted this policy on mandatory vaccination for Education Program Staff to safeguard the health of our employees from the hazard of COVID-19. This policy complies with OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard on Vaccination and Testing (29 CFR 1910.501).

We are asking that all LDPs have also completed their COVID-19 vaccination at least two weeks before January 14h, 2023, the program start date.

Application Process

The Leadership Development Application will close on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11:59 pm. Applicants will be contacted within two weeks regarding their application status.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands herein are representative of those that must be met by an LDP to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Environment: Volunteer work is conducted at CuriOdyssey and immediately local space at Coyote Point. Program will take place indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Mobility: Physical ability and endurance to occasionally carry and lift heavy materials, up to 50 pounds. Frequently move from a sitting to standing position. Traversing uneven surfaces, bending, reaching, sitting on the floor with children and twisting are daily repetitive physical actions.

Minimum Time Commitment:

LDPs are welcome and encouraged to volunteer more than 40 hours between January 2023 and May 2023.

In addition to the school year commitment, participants must also complete at least 120 hours or three weeks of facilitating camp alongside CuriOdyssey staff during Camp
CuriOdyssey’s during the months of June 2023 - August 2023. This will enable you to continue to fully develop your leadership skills and use them in action.

Training Fee: $35

Scholarship funds available. In the application, applicants may request financial assistance to cover the training fee. Ability to pay for training will NOT affect the selection process.
