Madagascar Hissing Cockroach
This animal is not on exhibit in the habitats. It is an Animal Ambassador and is used in public and school programs.
The original adults were captive hatched at the San Francisco Zoo in 2006. The current colony was captive hatched here.
Cockroaches are found on every continent including Antarctica. Cockroaches are fastidious and groom themselves constantly. “Dirty cockroaches” are dirty because they live in dirty places.
