Camps & Classes
Saturday S.T.E.A.M. Camp
For 1st – 3rd grade youth
Does your child love to ask the question “why…”, constantly tinker and explore, or make observations about the things they see and want to know more? If so, then this new science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.) Saturday camp is being designed just for them. Taking the foundations which make our summer camp program so impactful, such as campers directing their own learning, professional educators to facilitate questioning and discovery, and engaging content, and applying it to a Saturday program for those youth wanting something fun, educational and engaging to do on the weekends.
Three sessions will each have their own thematic platform from which educators will facilitate questioning and discovery. Each session has five classes, held on Saturdays. Drop-off will be at CuriOdyssey between 9:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Camp starts at 10:00 a.m. and pick-up will be at 1:00 p.m.
Session 1: Astounding Animals
January 21 – February 18
Fur for warmth, stinky spray for defense, and big eyes for nocturnal life are several examples of adaptations animals have developed to survive in the wild. This session will investigate the form and function of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and invertebrates. Participants will see live animals, search for tracks, and explore outside in Coyote Point Park to discover the creatures living in our own backyard. Special activities will have students providing care and enrichment for some of CuriOdyssey’s amazing animals. This program is the perfect opportunity for kids to stretch their scientific skills of making observations and noticing the world around them.
Session 2: Imaginative Engineers
February 25 – April 1 (No Class 3/25)
How to launch a projectile and have it fly straight, harness wind to create power, and build a structure that will withstand an earthquake are issues that engineers need to tackle. We want to pose these same questions to kids and let them imagine creative resolutions. Campers will use the same process as engineers to design, build, and test their ingenious creations. If your child enjoys building and tinkering, then you won’t want them to miss this opportunity to stretch their imaginations.
Session 3: Science in Art
April 8 – May 13 (No Class 4/15)
CuriOdyssey knows that science and art are linked and that children are natural explorers whose creativity is bound only by their imagination. In this session, campers will uncover various scientific phenomena while exercising their creativity. Using the spinning force of a fan to splatter paint, designing a sturdy structure out of tree branches, and studying patterns in nature, are just a few examples of activities that will let your child look at science through an artistic lens.
