SAN MATEO, CA – February 15, 2017 – On Sunday, February 19th, from 3pm to 5pm, CuriOdyssey will offer exclusive hours and programming supporting kids with special needs and their families. During this event, families with special needs kids can play with hands-on science exhibits, interact with native California animals and engage in activities designed and facilitated by our education team in a safe, friendly environment. The exclusive hours for these families will provide a calmer environment that families of special needs children often find more comfortable.
Tickets can be purchased for $5 per family at CuriOdyssey.org and parking is $6 or free for CuriOdyssey members. Prior to Super Families Day, can prepare by viewing a “Social Story” narrative detailing what to expect during their visit to CuriOdyssey. This photograph-filled story can help reduce the anxiety that some children with special needs feel when faced with new experiences. In the Social Story, the children learn what to expect during their visit, which activities they can participate in, and the kinds of animals and exhibits they will encounter.
CuriOdyssey’s Super Families Day will feature activities and experiences consistent with CuriOdyssey’s mission to help children acquire the tools to deeply understand the changing world while creating a calm atmosphere conducive to the unique learning process of children with special needs. CuriOdyssey’s professional educators will lead science activities and quiet rooms will be available.
CuriOdyssey is a serious science playground where more than 100,000 kids each year observe wild animals and experiment with real scientific phenomena. As a science and wildlife center, CuriOdyssey helps children acquire the tools to deeply understand the changing world. CuriOdyssey is dedicated to giving more kids the superpower of science and believes that kids learn about science and animals best out in the world and not behind a desk or a screen.
